Intro to Drawing

Ronald’s work follows the school of “impressionist realists” which include artists John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, and Joaquim Sorolla. The method he practices stresses accurate drawing as well as the color theories of the French Impressionists.

Following in the footsteps of the great masters of the past Ronald not only is an accomplished portrait painter but also paints landscapes, figurative, genre, still-life’s as well as etching. “If I can see it, I want to paint it”, he often tells his students.

Ronald came to The United States from Canada in 1995 to pursue a career in portrait work. The southeast had a long and proud tradition of portraiture that continues to this day. He was quickly embraced by the South and has been an in-demand portrait artist ever since. With hundreds of satisfied clients, word spread quickly and now Ronald is regarded as one of the leading artists in the country. His portraits and fine art hang in many leading Universities, Museums, hospitals and private homes.

He has enjoyed painting commissioned works and teaching students in his previous studio at the Auburn, Alabama historical site, Greystone Mansion and his studio at The William King Museum, Abingdon, Virginia.  Ronald Bayens built his current studio on his land in Bristol, Tennessee where he can enjoy life in Hoot Owl Hollow and the family dog Bishop is a frequent studio visitor.

He currently resides in Bristol, Tennessee with his wife Beth.  Their three oldest children are grown and live in various states. Their youngest two attend universities in Tennessee.

Mr. Bayens is a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Johnson City.  He is an active Boy Scout leader. He enjoys camping and canoeing and reading biographies and historical non fiction.
