MRS. ISHA YOUHAS
Isha Youhas holds a BS in Biology and History from the University of Michigan and a JD and LLM in International Law from Duke Law School.
Following law school, she clerked for Judge Andrew J. Kleinfeld on the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals where she helped draft legal opinions on voting rights, conspiracy, employment discrimination, death penalty, and securities cases, as well as a 5th Amendment takings case whose reasoning was later adopted by the US Supreme Court. See Brown v. Legal Foundation of Wash., 538 U.S. 216 (2003).
Following her clerkship, she practiced corporate law and securities enforcement law at a large law firm in Washington, D.C. For twelve years, she represented companies and individuals before the Securities & Exchange Commission and other regulators. Among her clients were public companies, major and regional investment banking firms, and investment advisers involved in accounting fraud, insider trading, and securities fraud matters.
Mrs. Youhas has also done pro bono work for the Beckett Fund for Religious Liberty, the Founding Freedoms Law Center, and the Homeschool Legal Defense Association.
She has previously taught US History, US Government, Economics, and Constitutional Law to homeschool students, both at co-ops and online at The Potter's School. Mrs. Youhas was also a Classical Conversations tutor for many years. She and her husband homeschool their four children.
An avid camper, Mrs. Youhas enjoys visiting historical sites throughout the country. She and her family are members of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Kingsport, TN.
"I was the director at Harvester Teaching Services when Isha Youhas was teaching with us. She always had a full class! It was very exiting--even some parents begged to get in class; they sat in the back row and took notes. She has an amazing breadth of experience and knowledge. When she shares this with the kids, it makes history come alive. I highly recommend her as a teacher and wish we could bring her back here!"
"Three of my children studied U.S. Government (one semester) and Economics (one semester) under Mrs. Youhas during the 2018-2019 school year. With her experience in law and vast knowledge of U.S. History and Government, Mrs. Youhas adeptly connects past events with current happenings so that her students come away with a desire and ability to critically consider present-day events in light of history.
As a result of having Mrs. Youhas as an instructor, my kids are more aware and interested in the Constitution and its proper application to governmental decisions as well as Economics both here and abroad. Any high school student (and most adults) could benefit from her classes!"
